Introduction

This is my English course report about the novel “The Drive to Dubai” which is by the author Julie Till. My report has three main parts: a background to the book, a summary of the story and a conclusion.

Background

The drive to Dubai is a story was written by Julie Till in 2004. The author was born and grew up in Liverpool in the north of England. She as lived and worked in the Middle East for fourteen years as a journalist. This book was first published by Oxford University Press at 2004. It has 60 pages and 8 chapters and it has a 700 headwords.

Summary of the story

Kareem’s father is the new financial manager at the Eastern Trading Company which is owned by sheikh Ahmed Bin Salem who trusted him more than any of his other employees. So, he asked Kareem’s father to finish some important business for his company in Dubai. After that Kareem’s father got into a big problem because of a parcel that he carried into the same address that is written on the pack. He didn’t know that the parcel includes stolen jewels which are related to Sheikh Ahmed Bin Salem wife. Definitely, the police arrested his as a thief. When his father is arrested in Dubai, Kareem has to move fast because he must show that his father is not a thief and prove that his family is honest. Kareem is going to marry the beautiful and intelligent Samira Al Hussein and she could never marry someone from a bad family. So, he worked with his brother and his beloved lady to prove the truth.

Conclusion

I thought this story was not very interesting for many reasons. The first reason is there is no effective aim from the events of the novel. The next reason is that I knew the end of the story while I was at the middle. On the other hand, it shows that the family reputation is the most important thing for both boys and girls for marriage. It took me three hours to read this book. Also, I learned some new words which will improve my English language.

It has 443 kilometres (275 mi) of coastline along the Gulf of Thailand.
